De Beers Diamonds for Development Fund Privacy Notice

Introduction  

The Government of the Republic of Botswana and De Beers Group have agreed to establish a Diamonds for Development Fund (or “Fund”) to support the growth of the economy of Botswana and has invited expressions of interest from people who wish to find out more about becoming beneficiaries of the Fund.

As part of its support for the Diamonds for Development Fund, De Beers Group is responsible for managing your personal information. This notice sets out how we will manage your information appropriately and explains the rights you have regarding this information.
We respect your right to privacy and aim to ensure that we are fair and transparent when collecting and using the personal information you have provided to us.

Who is responsible for your information?

The controller of this information is currently De Beers plc, a company registered in Jersey under company number 122752, whose registered office is at 3rd Floor, 44 Esplanade, St Helier, Jersey, JE4 9WG. Why are we collecting your personal data?

When you register your interest in participating in in the Fund, you may be asked for personal information such as your name, address and company details. This information will only be used to contact you regarding any future developments associated with the Fund.

Who else is involved, and where does the data go?

The information will be stored securely on servers in Europe and will only be shared with relevant entities within the De Beers Group, the Government of the Republic of Botswana or other stakeholders responsible for the development of the Fund and only when strictly necessary. We make sure that every organisation with whom we work with has robust data protection measures in place and has undergone rigorous information security and privacy due diligence process.

How long will we keep your data?

The data which is recorded about you will be stored for as long as is necessary to fulfil this purpose or until you withdraw your consent. All personal data will be deleted securely after this.

What are your rights regarding the data, and how do you exercise them?

  1. If you feel that the data is inaccurate, you can ask us to correct it. We may ask you to show why it is incorrect before making any requested changes.
  2. You may request erasure of the data, although we may refuse to erase it or delay that erasure if we feel retaining it is necessary for other lawful reasons.
  3. You may request restriction of processing, except if you dispute the accuracy of the data, at which point you may request that we restrict its processing during the period that we are working with you to ensure that it is accurate.
  4. You have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection regulator described below. We would ask that you always speak to us first before raising a complaint so that we can try to remedy the situation.
